Finally, my ‘A’ Level results are out!

After months of anticipation, the 2010 GCE ‘A’ Level results were finally released this afternoon. I am satisfied with my overall performance. To my surprise, I actually did better in some subjects than expected. Now, I must apply for university admission.

I also received my testimonial, CCA testimonial and CIP certificate from my civics tutor, Mr Loo Choon Chou and we shook hands. A big “thank you” to all my teachers in Hwa Chong! =D

I am proud to have been a history student of Mr Samuel Lim

When I was surfing the net on Saturday, I came across a The New Paper article titled Fierce teacher or fearful students? by Vinna Yip (published 3 March 2010).

My ex-history teacher, Mr Samuel Lim, received complaints from some parents of Hwa Chong International School students, about his ‘SLIM roars’.

I was baffled by the article, which has portrayed Mr Lim in a somewhat negative way, a stark contrast to my past experience as his student. I feel that it is therefore very unfair to Mr Lim, who had been a recipient of the Outstanding History Teacher Award.

Personally, I have never treated his ‘SLIM roars’ as insulting. I agree with other students that we have definitely benefited from it, and I am proud to have been a student of Mr Samuel Lim.

I believe that students who complained should respect his style of teaching, and reflect whether their attitude is right. Complaining about the teacher will not help them identify the root of their problem and I am sure they are going to complain about the next history teacher as well.

Mr Lim always have high expectations for his students. There is obviously no reason for Mr Lim to roar at students if they had been well-disciplined.

National Stamps Collecting Competition 2009

The 2009 National Stamps Collecting Competition(NSCC) was organised by Singapore Philatelic Museum and supported by organisations such as the Ministry of Education and Singapore Post to promote every aspect of philately. This is my first time participating in NSCC and I received the Bronze Award in the Individual Category.

My exhibit is titled “Phenomenal Nature: Humanity as a Study”. It showcases various aspects of China’s abundant Sichuan Basin (that is, Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality) such as flora and fauna, cultural relics and most importantly, giant pandas, through philatelic materials from various countries and regions such as DPR Korea, China, Singapore and Hong Kong.

While unwavering support from my friends in Hwa Chong Philatelic Society have definitely encouraged me a lot, credit must also be given to Kia Wee who helped me “refine” the title into such a catchy one. It was a heartwarming moment when Qingqing (who were also in the Spanish class) came down to National Library on 29 August 2009 for the exhibition. On 11 September, I collected my bronze certificate together with Jie Qi at Singapore Philatelic Museum.

Kompetisi Pengumpulan Prangko-prangko Nasional 2009
