It was coincidental, indeed unfortunate that this year’s Navy Open House ‘clashed’ into the week of mourning for the late Dr Goh Keng Swee, that all flags on the warships in Changi Naval Base were flown at half mast, evoking the solemn mood.

I also didn’t win the ballots for both the guided tour of frigate and the ship cruise. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed myself. I managed to go for a fast craft utilities ride, of which no balloting is required. Though the duration is much shorter than the 2-hour ship cruise around Singapore, I believe the fast craft utilities ride is definitely more thrilling. I was standing in the fast craft throughout the journey with my Canon EOS 500D taking pictures and HD videos, and the fast craft was shaky most of the time due to powerful sea wind and waves.

Some of my friends who did not manage to go to the Navy Open House 2010 have asked me about my experience there. I see the NOH as a rich cousin of the Air Force Open House but a poor cousin of the Army Open House. Whilst the NOH is ‘richer’ than the AFOH in terms of the number of hands-on opportunities, it is ‘poorer’ than the AOH in terms of the variety of weaponry displayed. In fact, the NOH appeared to be more like a family carnival than a real military event! Introducing fun games pleased children, the military elements in this open house were also eroded. Nevertheless, I still acknowledge that the organising committee has put in effort to make this year’s NOH possible.

2010新加坡海军开放日

这是我首次前往新加坡共和国海军部队开放日参观。之前去过陆军和空军的开放日，但就是没有去过海军的开放日。结果，我对海军越来越感兴趣了。

今年的海军开放日的举办时间很不巧地与开国元勋吴庆瑞博士去世后为期一周的全国哀悼期撞上了，所以在樟宜海军基地看到的所有国旗、军旗都降了半旗，让人感到一丝伤感。

我也没被抽中参加军舰环岛一日游和护卫舰的指导游览。不过，我玩得还是很开心的。由于无需抽奖，我很容易地就坐上了工程快艇在樟宜海军基地兜风了一圈。虽然游览时间比长达两小时的环绕新加坡岛的军舰观光要短许多，但我相信工程快艇一定更为刺激。从头到尾我都站在船板上，手握着我的Canon EOS 500D拍摄照片和高清视频。由于风浪比较大，所以快艇一直在摇晃。

有几位没有去成今年海军开放日的朋友问我，今年的海军开放日搞得怎么样。我觉得今年的海军开放日比空军开放日要好，但比陆军开放日差一些。海军开放日比空军开放日有了更多让观众亲身体验各种武器的机会，但在武器种类和数量上还是比不过陆军开放日。此外，今年的海军开放日搞得更像是一场家庭嘉年华，而不是一场真正的军事盛事。开放日配备了一些供儿童玩耍的趣味游戏虽然给小朋友们带来了快乐，但开放日的军事元素也就同时侵蚀了。不管怎样，我还是能看得出，组委会是下了功夫力争把此次海军开放日办得精彩的。

The May 12 Wenchuan Earthquake has claimed the lives of many people and caused much destruction to various parts of Sichuan Province. However, Chengdu city is still as beautiful as before. In July 2008, Sichuan TV Staion recorded this clip to showcase the scenery in Chengdu to viewers with a different approach. 大约两年前，我记得新加坡《联合早报》报道了成都市将拍摄一部熊猫的动画电影，题材是“熊猫功夫世家”。如今，这部动画片拍成了，叫做《巴布熊猫》。我看了一下这部动画片的宣传，简直爱上了这家熊猫。下面是一篇关于《巴布熊猫》的新闻报道：

在成都市委、市政府大力发展动漫产业的总体部署下，市动漫产业得到迅速发展并取得可喜成绩。据悉，由成都市火车头文化传播有限公司制作的全球首部大熊猫主题三维动画片《巴布熊猫》，继10月在成都电视台少儿频道及其他省市电视台播出获得一致好评后，又被中央电视台看上并购买，已于1月19日开始每天黄金时间傍晚六点四十五分在中央电视台少儿频道播出。成都市火车头文化传播有限公司开发了拥有自主知识产权的三维动画制作与应用技朮平台﹐创作出《巴布熊猫》、《幻游记》和《魔幻木偶》。

通过不断实践，我们建立了一个卡通形象设计—–节目制作—-品牌形象授权—-衍生产品设计生产销售各环节相互促进相互补充良性循环的一体产业链。在我国动漫产业兴起的大潮中，火车头公司倡导并坚持创作有中国特色的高品质原创动画，并以为少年儿童提供健康有益、寓教于乐的动画节目视为企业理应承担的责任。

Sichuan is located in Southwestern China, along the upper stream of the Yangtze River. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is located in the Western part of Sichuan, and the Sichuan Basin is in the Eastern part of Sichuan. Millons of years of crustal movements and historical events resulted in the beautiful scenery of Sichuan Province. Sichuan is located in the communication corrider between the different races and ethnic groups in all parts of China. It has absorbed the essence of the various cultures and is a melting pot of different cultures, creating its unique Ba-Shu Culture. Sichuan occupies a land of 48.5 cubic kilometres, and a population of about 87 500 000 spread over 21 cities and 181 counties.

观看这两部由中国重庆电视台在2006年制作的重庆形象宣传片可以说是视觉上的极大享受。其中《美不胜收 我的重庆》选择的镜头以及剪辑的方法都非常具有创意，巧妙地将重庆的美融合在1分钟的短片里，而《重庆奇迹 一起参与》则是展现了重庆的霸气、豪迈，而更深一层的含义则是体现了重庆人民在直辖10年中取得的巨大成就。

Watching these two short clips produced by China Chongqing Television in 2006 is like enjoying a great feast and they are very visually appealing. The first clip showcases the beauty of Chongqing by using selected scenes and, the technique of editing the video clip is rather creative, which allowed the beauty of Chongqing to be showcased within the 1-minute short video. The second clip showcases the unique characters of Chongqing people – enduring and hardworking, and its deeper meaning is to show the great achievements of the Chongqing people during the 10-year period From 1997 to 2007, after Chongqing became a municipality.
